Actvity: All About Me and Meet and Greet

Staff introduce themselves: Name, Site, Program, how long they’ve been Hope Services. After both staff have introduced each other help facilitate introductions for all participants by using the prompt below as a guide. 


All About Me Class

The goal of this class is to explore your own life, experiences, and preferences and be able to tell other people the things about yourself you want them to know. 


Read the poem 

Use the images to clarify the ideas of the poem. 

If someone signs in your group, ask them to sign the poem. 


Presenters model your answers or acted out responses to the prompts, then have participants respond. Do as many as you have time for. 


  1. What makes you feel powerful?
  2. What life choices have you made on purpose?
  3. Tell about a friend who helped you, or you helped
  4. What lucky break have you had in life?
  5. Tell us something you like.
  6. Tell us something that annoys you.
  7. What special gift do you want to share with the world?

Art and Design Class

The goal of this class is to introduce you to techniques artists use to express ideas and make people feel differently with their art. It will also help you try out different design options and find your own way of communicating with art. 


With screen shared: Do an internet search for “Jeff Koons Puppy sculpture” 

Look at the IMAGES tab. 

Look at several images of the sculpture.

Discuss the color and size and what it is made of.


Presenters model responding to the prompts with verbal or acted out responses. This is about emotional responses to art so facial expressions can be very useful.


  1. How do you feel when you look at this sculpture?
  2. How do puppies usually make people feel?
  3. Are puppies big or small? 
  4. How does it feel to see a giant puppy? Is it fun? Weird? Scary? 
  5. The puppy is made out of living flowrs. How does looking at the living flowers feel?
  6. If you saw a giant puppy made of flowers in your downtown area, would it change your day at all? Would you feel different? 
  7. What would you like to make gigantic just for fun as a work of art? What would you make it out of? 
  8. We can also like things that are usually big that are made small… like kid sized furniture, or model trains. What miniatures do you like? 

Feel free to open up internet searches on other art you know of that plays with size and scale.

Employment Prep Class

The goal of this class is to help you feel proud of your way of communicating, decide how you want to present yourself to others, and practice skills that will help you succeed in different work places.

Presenters: Read the captions to the group and pause the video to explain what is going on. explain that everyone communicates differently.

Model responses to each prompt - verbal or acted out - and have participants respond too. 

  1. How do you communicate?
  2. What other ways do you communicate?
  3. If you speak, do you have an accent?
  4. Do you know someone who has an accent?
  5. Are you proud of how you communicate?
  6. Is communication easy, medium, or hard in your opinion?
  7. Why is communication important at work?
  8. Not everyone uses words but almost everyone uses body language. Can we show each other how we can express these things with body language?

  • I'm excited
  • I'm tired
  • I'm day dreaming

Feel free to have your own body and face language poetry slam if you have time. You can find poems online to act out too. Shel Silverstein and Dr. Seuss could be fun.

Music Class

The goal of this class is to learn about the different things that go into making music and how some music makers collaborate to make music. 


Listen to this song. 

Option to read the lyrics together.  


Explore these prompts together. 

  1. Presenters can mime each instrument in the list or find a picture online. Have people clap if they think they heard that instrument in the song. For Deaf people you can indicate whether the instrument was used or not.

Can any of us make music with our voices, whether it is singing, impersonating an instrument, or mimicing birdsong?
