Life Skills Stories : *Making Decisions & Compromising
Using the Discussion Questions for this week's Life Skills Story, discuss the questions titled Making Decisions
and Compromising.
Elaborate the discussion into exploring how people make choices and decisions using the following questions OR the natural conversation that flows in your group.
- When you have to decide something, do you take a long time or a short time?
- What is the most recent decision you made?
- What needs and wants do you think about about when you are deciding things?
- Are you good at compromising?
- What is the difference between giving in and compromising?
- Is it easier or harder to find a good compromise when there are more people involved?
Applying the Lesson
It's time for everyone to help decide more about how the program is going to work. Today we're going to do an activity that will help your group choose what you want to do on Friday.
PRESENTERS: This is our first attempt to see if we can do a preference assessment as part of the learning activity then use it later in the week. To CAPTURE the results of your group's decision you can
- tell the group you are going to record the discussion then press the record button and save the video to your local computer
- open the whiteboard and write or doodle the preferences people give
- Use a pencil and paper and show everyone at the end of the activity to confirm the decisions the group made.
Review these activities as a group. You're not going to DO any of them unitl Friday. You are choosing the activities for Friday.
See what your group likes. Use compromise to select ONLY 1-3 to do in your group on Friday.
For any crafts be sure everyone knows what supplies they'll need for Friday.
These same links will be in Friday's session with additional supports/instructions.
