This week we will review stress management techniques and language to use when we are in stressful situations. Skill builder of the week is finding ways to utilize these stress management techniques in situations we almost all run into throughout our lives.

Plan Your Week- Stress Management Techniques (10 min)

PRESENTERS: Each week will start with reviewing portfolio planners to update tasks, appointment or other things that should be marked in their portfolio planner.


Update any activities for the week **Planner Pages April 18 to 24**

  • What habits will you be tracking?
  • What is stress management & how do stress management techniques positively impact us on our most stressful days?

As a group:

  • Define stress management as a group. Ask participants to give examples.
  • Have participants write one stress management technique they would like to try in their portfolio planners

Presenters: This week we will finish part 2 of the life skills story we started last week. When you finish reading and reviewing the story, complete the questions that correspond.

When complete, answer the corresponding questions as a team.


Stress Management in shared living spaces (10 min)

PRESENTERS: Review some tips and tricks about living in shared living spaces. Add an experiences that you've had as an examples if you are comfortable.


Here are 10 tips for living with a roommate from University of Wyoming

  • Why do you think that managing stress when you share a living space with someone else is important?
  • What are ways in which you can help mitigate stress?

Share a list of ways that you can make shared living spaces less stressful:

  • Clean up after yourself
  • Be aware of your volume
  • Respect differences in schedules
  • Come up with an outline of expectations

Write one way you plan on keeping shared living spaces stress-free in your portfolio planner.

COVID-19 Mitigation Moment: Sleep Hygiene (5 min):

PRESENTERS: Review sleep hygiene tips and how sleep hygiene impacts our health


Sleep Hygiene Tips


Get plenty of sleep and take care of yourself. Sleep is an important part of staying healthy.


Sleep hygiene tips: 

  • Be consistent
  • Keep your room dark and quiet to sleep
  • Comfortable temperature
  • Remove electronics from your room
  • Avoid large meals, caffeine, and alcohol before bedtime
  • Exercise

Optional Level-Up:

Create an outline of your sleep hygiene routine. Add one (or more) things that you would like to change to better the routine in the future.

Game Time: Find a food grown near you (10-15 min)

PRESENTERS: Review the steps. Using a google search, find examples of foods that are grown in California. See if any of the foods are grown near your site's location.

  2. Pick a food and search where it is grown
  3. Have each participant try to find one or more foods that are grown within 100 miles of the city you are in.
