Thematic Connection: Voting
Today’s theme is civic and community education, and we have an election coming up! Voting in an important way to be civically engaged. Do you have a plan to vote?
Did you know that you can check whether you’re registered to vote online and also track your ballot online? Did you receive your ballot yet?
If you want to learn more about what’s on the ballot, you can read the California Voter Guide online. If you want to learn more about the various issues on the ballot, you can watch videos about the propositions in American Sign Language! Which propositions do you think are a good idea?
If you want to learn more about voting, check out: vote.ca.gov
Thematic Connection: Public & Private Spaces
Objective: Distinguish public and private spaces, and identify what sorts of behaviors may be appropriate in each setting.
Last Tuesday, we practiced categorizing speech and actions. Some words we used to describe ways of talking or acting were: silly, professional, private, and calm. Do you remember other words we used to describe behavior? What are some examples of those ways of acting?
Often, whether acting in a certain way is appropriate or not depends on where we are. Specifically, what’s appropriate often depends on whether we are in a public or a private space.
Presenters: open this slide show and share your screen: Public and Private Spaces. Use the slide show to discuss the differences between public and private spaces (both in the real world and virtually), and practice identifying what sorts of speech and actions are (not) appropriate for different spaces.

The California State Registrar recognizes a set of political parties as qualified to put candidates on the official ballot.
Voters can register to be members of a political party. Parties promote points of view and things they want to do in the government. When you register with a party you agree with the things they believe and want from government.
You don't have to pick a party. That makes you an "independent" voter.
Parties usually publish recommendations to their members for how to vote. This can be helpful if you have confidence in your party.
PRESENTERS: Introduce your group to the names of the recognized parties in this link. Tell learners they can search for the party online to learn more about them.
Thematic Connection: Heart Health
PRESENTERS: Zoom in on the bulleted lists by using the magnifier mouse to click or by pressing CTRL and the + key on the keyboard.
Do we know these words and phrases?
How can these tips help you make a favorite food better for your heart?
PRESENTERS: read the less healthful food choice and ask the group what to do instead. When you get a suggestion compare it to the one in the table.
Vote for your favorite and tell us some other foods you know are lower fat.
Another great way to love on our heart muscle is to let it work for us. Dance ON!

Now for the singers: This is an acapella Halloween Medley - you'll probably recognize a lot of these songs.
OK, now get a drink if you haven't already!
