 I am inspiring! 

  • This week we are going to create visuals and graphics to show and share all the ways that we are already inspiring.
  • How can we define inspiring? What are somethings you find inspiring or you have used inspiration for in the past.
  • Ask participants to recall something that inspired them in the past.

Show & Share (10-min)

A photo is worth 1,000 words.

This week we are exploring biographies. Be ready to share a photo that says “1,000 words” and explains you to others. 

  • Where were you in the photo?
  • Why is this photo important to you? 
  • How does this photo describe you without using actual words?

Tomorrow's Show & Share: Share a photo from a community outside of our program that you are a member of.

Tomorrow be ready to share a photo of you participating in an activity for the community you are a member of.

 Using Graphic Organizers (10 min)

PRESENTERS: Participants have a worksheet to complete in this week's printables. Follow along with the worksheet after reviewing the following with the team.

Introduce this week’s Skill Builder: Using Graphic Organizers

What is a graphic organizer? A graphic organizer is a way for us to get all our thoughts down on paper in a visual way.

  • You can use visuals or words.
  • Share a few examples of how graphic organizers can be used.
  • Use examples from the portfolio planner.
  • Ask participants how they could or would use graphic organizers either now or in the future.

What is inspiring? - Graphic Organizer (10-15 min)

PRESENTERS: Follow along with the graphic organizer print out in this weeks printables

In your portfolio planners, you will see an example of a **graphic organizer. **This is an example is called the Frayer Model. The circle in the middle represents the word and the squares outside of the circle are different ways to look at the word in in the center.

  • Using the squares, we will define inspiring using the dictions. Then we will define characteristics of inspiring - what makes something inspiring to you or others? Use that box to put your thoughts in
  • After reviewing things that are inspiring and characteristics,  write or draw an example of inspiring. Try to think of something specific like an example or a picture.
  • Finally, explain what is not inspiring to round out your thoughts on the Frayer Model.

Life Skills Story— Book 1 - Story 6: Todd’s Secret Pt. 1 (10-15 min)

PRESENTERS: Complete part one of the life skills story, which is page 1. The story will be completed next week.Remeber that the LARGE TEXT option is available for viewing and copy was also sent **page 1 and page 2**

My overlapping communities (10-15 min)

PRESENTERS: Participants will have a venn diagram to complete as your go over the following community prompts below.

Everyone is a member of multiple communities. This program is a community, a hobby you may have outside of program is a community, your family is a community.

  • Share examples of different communities you know of, staff feel encouraged to share some communites too! 
  • Do you celebrate any special cultural events? Cultures are another example of community! 
  • Describe what a VENN DIAGRAM is...anyone want to look it up online?
  • Have participants write their name in the middle of their portfolio planner’s Venn diagram title ** My Overlapping Communities** You can also share screen the worksheet to provide and an example or have others annotate the screen.
  • Identify three main communities to add to the circles of participants Venn Diagrams

Life Skills Story Work Sheet:  Eating a Balanced Diet (5-10 min)

PRESENTERS: Complete the worksheet in the planner portfolio printables as a team.


Do you know if your meals are balance with fiber, fruits and protien to get you through the day? What did you eat for breakfast this morning? Planning our meals ahead of time can help us save time prepping in the kitchen and helps ensure that we are eating a good blend of grians, protien, dairy, vegetables and more! Complete the life skills worksheet called **Eating a balanced diet**. Share your answers with the team when you finish.

My month’s timeline  (5-10 min)

PRESENTERS: In participants portfolio planners they will be able to complete a monthly timeline with 5 things that happened this month.

  • Use your portfolio planner to write, draw, doodle, or mark 5 things that happened to you this month on your graphic organizer. **March 2021 Timeline** 
  • How did March start? Did anything exciting happen? 
  • What was the middle of the month like? Did you see any of your goals or habits start to take off?
  • Finish your monthly timeline in your portfolio planner. Share with the team if you would like.

Have you noticed school calendars are shorter than a regular annual calendars? Why is that? Use Maria's school calendar to compare and help us understand the difference. Complete the worksheet as a team, share screen, anotate or put answers in the chat.

COVID-19 Mitigation Moment: Cover that cough and how to safely weat a mask! (5-10 min)

COVID-19 is a virus, so it spreads with particles from coughs, sneezes, or other activities that involve things leaving our body.

  • So, what happens if you do need to cough?
  • Cover your mouth! Use either your elbow, your hands, or a tissue to cover it up!
  • THROW THAT TISSUE AWAY, MY FRIEND.
  • IMMEDIATELY WASH THOSE HANDS! Spend at least 20 seconds (a full swing through of Happy Birthday) to wash your hands with soap and water.
  • If you cannot find a sink, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Search online for a few visuals of what types of hand sanitizer stations may look like in the public.
  • MASK UP! Always wear a mask when you are in the community, outside, at a retail store and any place that outside of your house. Do you have a favorite mask?
  • Review some mask safety steps **How to Safely Wear and Take off a Mask**
  • Any other tips you would recommend?

Defining stress and certain things that stress me out.  (5-10 min)

PRESENTERS: Review the print out in the weekly printables. Today we will be exploring ways in which different things stress different people out. Feel free to share any things that may seem small that might stress you out (examples - people who don't use turn signals, leaving refrigerated foods in random food aisles, etc.)

Everyone experiences stress differently. Something that stresses one person out might not stress out another person. We all have unique things that stress us out and might not bother another person. 


What are something that we can identify that stress us out?


Identify at least two things that are stressful to individual participants and mark them in your portfolio planner. What did you learn about other participants that surprised you?


How can you be more aware of things that stress others out in the future?


What are ways that we can work together to mitigate (or lessen) stressful situations for our friends or loved ones?

Life Skills Stories Worksheet: Conserving Electricity (5-10 min)

PRESENTERS: Complete the life skills story as a team. Discuss different ways in which you personally know how to conserve electricity or practices you utilize on your own.

Saving electricity seems so hard now that we are at home, using more electronic devices. However, some simple changes can help you save money. Like unplugging devices in an outlet if you arent using them. Doing laundry once a week instead of 3 times a week. Help Jane with some tips, tricks and advice in the ***Conserving Electricity Worksheet**Complete as a team and share your answers with the team when you finish.
