Introduce the Week (3 min)

This week we are going to focus on recognizing the ways in which stress impacts us mentally, physically, and emotionally. Last week we spent time looking at how stress is experienced differently between individuals and that different things cause different stresses for some individuals.


Show & Share (10-min):

Something recyclable. Show and share something in your home that you found that is recyclable. Bonus points if you can show us where the recycling icon is on the item

A plant in your house to celebrate international plant appreciation day. 


Plan Your Week (10 min)

PRESENTERS: Each week will start with reviewing portfolio planners to update tasks, appointment or other things that should be marked in their portfolio planner.

Review your plans for the week. Do you have any tasks or habits you need to work on? Write, draw, doodle or sticker in things you need to get done this week. **Planner Pages April 10 to 16**


Stress and its impacts on us (10 min)

  1. Review short video on stress impacts
  2. Discuss different impacts from video
  3. Introduce worksheet **Identifying Stress**and discuss ways that stress could be defined
  4. Have participants define stress in their own words or images
  5. Share your responses 

Reacting to stressful situations (5 min)

Review different types of stressful situations such as: forgot keys/got locked out, fender bender, earthquake, friend hurt, hurt self, etc.

  • Give 1-3 steps of ways to make decisions that are safe and how to make those decisions for the safety of everyone that is present.
  • Identify the common factor of addressing all stressful situations

PRESENTERS: Read and discuss the High Priority Vocabulary worksheet as a team.

Do you know what a homophone is? It's something pretty cool.  By definition, each of two or more words having the same pronunciation but different meanings, origins, or spelling, for example new and knew. You may be suprised by the many homophones you will see on the worksheet. Can you think of any that are missing?

PRESENTERS: Each week will start with reviewing portfolio planners to update tasks, appointment or other things that should be marked in their portfolio planner.

Part 1: Review your plans for the week.**Planner Pages April 11 to 17** Do you have any tasks or habits you need to work on? Write, draw, doodle, or sticker in things you need to get done this week.


Part 2: Ways to let others know we feel stressed out:

  • Why talking about stress is important for our mental health?
  • Discussing stress can be healthy for us and teach us ways that we can help our friends and loved ones while they are overwhelmed.
  • Add 1 reason to your portfolio planner page titled **Stressful Situations** that describes how letting others know if you are stressed or overwhelmed makes you feel less stressed.

  • How did you react to the situation?
  • What would you have changed about your reaction?

High Priority Vocab: Choosing Internet Search Words

Presenters complete the work sheet as a team by screen sharing the worksheet. 

  • Which internet search words did you come up with per each topic? 
  • Did you see some simillarties within the group?
  •  What other topics can you think of besides the list provided on the sheet?

Hydration and COVID-19 (5 min):

Presenters: Each week we will review health tips and tricks iun regards to the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Review why staying hydrated is important.
  • Ways to remind yourself to stay hydrated
  • Hydration and health-Why it matters.
  • What counts as being hydrated? What should you eat? As a team, search for foods that keep you hydrated

Optional Level-Up:

Reach out to one friend to see if they are doing alright. Write a paragraph on how reaching out made you feel.

What is self-care? (10 min)

PRESENTERS: Use the printable to review ways to conduct self-care as a way to work through stress.


It is important for us to take time for ourselves each day to relax and reflect on things. This is a form of self-care. 

  • So what exactly is self-care? It is defined as "the practice of taking action to preserve or improve our health (Oxford Languages)
  • How would you define ways that you practice taking care of yourself?
  • Share one way you practice self-care, even if you just learned it today. This could be playing video games, going for a walk, drinking tea, listening to your favorite music... the possibilities are endless and everyone's self-care practices are different and unique to themselves.
  • Usind the **Self-Care Ideas Worksheet**Describe one way you can practice self-care in your planner portfolio.

Presenters: Review thge first activity today to help participants build a self care plan in their portfolio planners. Use the printable **Self-Care Ideas** to guide the conversation.

In our first activity, what did we learn about self care?

  • It is unique to each person
  • We can practice self-care in a variety of ways
  • We define our own self-care practice.
  • Brainstorm ways in which you can practice self-care today. Tomorrow? Next week?
  • Using worksheet in planner portfolio, write, draw, describe, or doodle a one to three step self-care plan

Create a montage of your self-care routine.
